159 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine GOVERNMENT AND MILITARY in Wisconsin from 1956 to 1957 before entering the United States Navy. During his time in the military, he was a commanding officer of Patrol Squadron 17 in Honolulu, Hawaii, from 1973 to 1975, having also served at the Naval Air Station in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, from 1981 to 1983 and at the Naval Base in Philadelphia from 1984 to 1985. In 1986, Mr. Schulz began serving the Uni- versity of Pennsylvania’s ROTC Program as a commanding officer, holding the position for one year. Shortly thereafter, he retired from the military at the rank of captain and was immediately hired by Delaware Valley College in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, as vice president. From 1987 to 1994, he held that role before establishing the Freedom Foundation in Val- ley Forge, Pennsylvania. For the subsequent 20 years, he served the Freedom Foundation as executive vice president until retiring in 2014. Notably, Mr. Schulz received an MA from Central Michigan University in 1979. He formerly served as president of the Philadelphia Council of the Navy League from 2000 to 2002 and currently maintains membership with the Doylestown Presbyterian Church. He has also been affiliated with the Masons, Rotary International and Ozaukee Lodge, as well as the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on their board of directors. To attest to his success, Mr. Schulz was named Flight Instructor of the Year by the U.S. Navy in 1964 and received a Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Wisconsin- Whitewater in 2004. That same year, the Military Order of World Wars bestowed upon him the Silver Patrick Henry Medallion for Patriotic Achievement. He has further been highlighted in the 60th edition of Who’s Who in America, published in 2005. I nspired by his father to leverage his talents and pursue higher education, Captain Russell K. Schulz attended the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, graduating with a BS and a teaching certificate in 1956.
