197 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine HEALTH AND WELLNESS P ossessing a desire to help others, Dr. Lawrence D. Rink sought to pursue medicine. After receiving a BS from DePauw University in 1962, he attended Indiana University and earned an MD in 1966. Subsequently, Dr. Rink completed an internship at Parkland Hospital, a residency in internal medicine and fellowship in cardiology at Indiana University, and a limited cardiology fellowship at Massachusetts Hospital. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Cardiology. Drawing upon more than 45 years’ experience in medicine and academia, Dr. Rink has excelled as a cardiologist at Indiana University Health since 2017, where he has also served as a physician for the Indiana University basketball team since 1979. Alongside this post, he has also been a clinical professor of medicine at the Indiana University Medical School since 1985, where he was also a clinical assistant professor and clinical associate professor beginning in 1973. Concurrently, Dr. Rink served as chief executive officer and chairman of the board at Premier Health Care from 2004 to 2014, and director of cardiac rehabilitation in 1976 and director of cardiology from 1983 to 2010 at Bloomington Hospital. He also excelled as chief executive officer and chairman of the board of directors at IMA, Inc., from 1995 to 2004, where he also served as a cardiologist between 1974 and 2017. Recognized as a pioneer in the areas of sports medicine and cardiology on an international level, Dr. Rink is a noted fellow of the American College of Cardiology, as well as a member of the American Society of Critical Care, American College of Sports Medicine, American Medical Association and American Heart Association, who gave him the Corvitae Award in 2003. In light of his exceptional undertakings, Dr. Rink received the Quality of Life Award from the Mayor of Bloomington in 1978, was named Most Outstanding Alumnus by the Indiana University Medical School in 1998 and was inducted into the Monroe County Hall of Fame in 2016.
