She has maintained affiliation with several veterans clubs, including Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and AMVETS. Equally passionate about women’s rights within the workforce, she would like to remain confident in her duties and help women who have been disadvantaged in the system obtain higher-level jobs. With this sentiment, she notes that one of her goals is to help emerging professionals have fair opportunities that she herself did not have when she first entered the industry. Looking toward the future, Ms. Williams intends to aid in the fight for fair opportunity, emphasizing that there are a plethora of opportunities within the field, but many of them remain unfair. Currently residing in Palmer, Alaska, she enjoys hunting, fishing, traveling and gardening in her spare time. I nterested in the oceans and fishery industry from a formative age, Kathi L. Williams attended Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington, where she graduated with a BS in marine biology in 1981. In the early 1980s, she worked in the fishery industry during the king crab season. She subsequently traveled to Alaska, and soon thereafter, she began her tenure with the International Union of Operating Engineers and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Since the early 1990s, Ms. Williams has held national certifications for crane operation. She has always demonstrated strength and vitality as a woman in a male-oriented field. Often intimidating her male colleagues, she has proved her worth since the inception of her career and has been met with unparalleled success. Growing up in Idaho and Washington, Ms. Williams notes how the value of hard work was instilled in her from a young age. Ms. Williams attributes her success to her determination and drive, as well as her eclectic KATHI L.
