A contributor of over 40 articles and 75 abstracts in journals, he earned a PhD in veterinary science and pathophysiology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. At the inception of his career, he served the university as a research specialist and research assistant and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the Albany Medical College before joining Baxter International in 1986. At Baxter, he was a postdoctoral fellow, manager of the Department of Physiology and Applied Sciences, director of biological sciences, vice president of research and development, and global scientific lead between 1986 and 2010. Subsequently, he was chief scientific officer of Sangart from 2011 to 2013 before joining Integra LifeSciences in 2014, where he has been chief scientific officer and corporate vice president. Dr. Burhop’s achievements include research in biocompatibility assessment of compounds, modified hemoglobin solutions and other blood substitute solutions, and regenerative medicine. He maintains membership with the American Physiological Society, New York Academy of Sciences and American Society of Hematology. Buschbach departed from the military as a lieutenant commander in 1947. Subsequently, he earned a BS, an MS and a PhD, all from the University of Illinois in 1950, 1951 and 1959, respectively. Upon earning hismaster’s degree, he began his profession as a geologist specializing in structural geology, stratigraphy and underground storage of natural gas at the Illinois Geological Survey, holding the role until 1978. In the midst of this tenure, he served the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission as a coordinator of the New Madrid Seismotectonic Study from 1976 to 1985, as well as a research professor in geology at St. Louis University from 1978 to 1985. Today, he remains a consultant and geologist in Champaign, Illinois. A fellow of the Geological Society of America, Dr. Buschbach notably worked alongside Vanderbilt University and Purdue University, among several other prestigious institutions, to coordinate the regional earthquake hazard study upon the invitation from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
