309 A Marquis Who's Who Magazine F or over two decades, Jorge Perez worked his way through the ranks at IBM, a global information technology company that offers a mix of technological products. Migrating to the United States from Cuba at the age of 15, Mr. Perez’s passion for the manufacturing business was sparked by his family, most notably his brother, who was a mechanical engineer, and father, from which his entrepreneurial spirit came from. To prepare for his career, he earned a Bachelor of Science in commerce and engineering science and a Master of Business Administration from Drexel University in 1969 and 1981, respectively. During his undergraduate coursework, he began working for the company as an industrial engineer. Soon thereafter, he became an associate industrial engineer from 1970 to 1971, and was promoted to senior associate of industrial engineering in 1972. He continued to succeed at the company, holding positions including staff industrial engineer, operations research analyst, financial program administrator, manager of production control, project manager and program manager, a position he held until his retirement in 1992. With the knowledge and experience he gained working at IBM, Mr. Perez authored several manuals related to his field, including “Machine Tooling,” “Transportation Forecasting,” “Workload Planning” and “Measurement.” He remains abreast of the field as a member of the American Production & Inventory Control Society, where he served as vice president of the membership committee from 1984 to 1985, and the Institute of Industrial Engineers, where he served as senior member and president from 1974 to 1975, earning an excellence award in 1975. When Mr. Perez knew that IBM was leaving South Florida in 1988, he had the foresight to get involved in the child care business. Currently, he owns three Small World Preschools in Palm Beach County, Florida. Jorge Perez Manufacturing Executive (Retired) Jupiter, FL
