432 A s a diplomate of the American Board of Pathology, Robert Zipf has utilized his medical skills to help people remain healthy in North Carolina. To hone his medical skills, Dr. Zipf began his internship at Miami Valley Hospital in 1966. This was followed by his pathology training at Duke University Medical Center in 1967. The experience he gained there allowed him to obtain a position as assistant professor and director of forensic autopsy service at Duke and medical examiner of Durham County. From 1972 to 1974, he served in the U.S. Air Force as a Major and consultant to the Surgeon General. In 1974, he began a position as chief of radioisotope pathology at Riverside Methodist Hospital and as deputy coroner in Franklin County, Ohio. In Rocky Mount, North Carolina, he was appointed as director of laboratories for Nash Health Care Services and as regional forensic pathologist in North Carolina, positions which he held from 1978 until his retirement in 2006. Dr. Zipf ’s career has been filled with many great accomplishments, including providing medical and legal services for attorneys, law enforcement agencies, hospitals and health care information corporations. He has utilized his knowledge to contribute articles to professional journals and has been active in the field as a fellow of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, the American College of Nuclear Medicine and the Nash County Medical Society, serving as the president in 1995. He also served on the North Carolina Forensic Advisory Board and as a trustee for Nash Community College and North Carolina Wesleyan College. To prepare for his career, he earned a Bachelor of Arts from DePauw University and a Doctor of Medicine from Ohio State University.
