Dr. Chang holds a PhD from Iowa State University and has earned multiple prestigious international and institutional awards for teaching and online education. She attributes her success to God’s guidance and values her family’s steadfast support. Through decades of teaching, program innovation, award-winning online course design and leadership in distance education, she has strengthened institutions and advanced online learning globally. She has earned recognition as a transformative educational leader whose impact extends across students, faculty, and academic communities worldwide. Dr. Shu-Hui “Susan” Chang, teaching professor and director of distance education in the Department of Computer Science at Iowa State University, is a recognized leader in e-learning and computer science education. Over a distinguished 30-year career, she has demonstrated excellence in teaching, instructional design and digital innovation. Since 2003, Dr. Chang has taught and supervised over 24,000 students, contributing over 94,000 credit hours, with graduates achieving professional success in their careers. Since 2006, she has served as director of distance education. Her work in curriculum, course design, faculty mentorship and instructional innovation has strengthened departmental and university standards. She contributed to undergraduate and graduate education and spearheaded a graduate TA training program, mentoring approximately 200 PhD students in pedagogy and practical teaching skills, many of whom received university teaching awards. She trains new faculty on Canvas, ensuring they succeed in academia. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she led workshops and transitioned to remote instruction, maintaining teaching excellence and supporting faculty and student success.
