113 Millennium - Twenty-third Edition HOSPITALITY AND LEISURE What began as a part-time job during college has blossomed into a fulfilling and successful career for Aldijana Vugdalic. As the director of operations at the Sonesta Gwinnett Place Atlanta, managed by Hospitality Venture Management LLC, she oversees the daily functions of a property that serves as both a full-service hotel and an extended-stay facility. Ms. Vugdalic began her journey with Sonesta Hotels in 2011 as a hostess. She worked her way through nearly every position in the food and beverage department, from bartending and banquet serving to room service and some cooking. Just one year later, she was promoted to outlet supervisor before advancing through numerous leadership roles within the department. After serving as director of food and beverage for Hospitality Ventures Management LLC for about one year, Ms. Vugdalic applied for her current position as director of operations. The role is the culmination of a career spent listening to others and being willing to take on multiple jobs, whether that means assisting behind the front desk or in housekeeping. As she looks toward the future, Ms. Vugdalic sees several possible paths before her. In 2012, she completed a Bachelor of Arts in political science and religious studies, with a concentration in international affairs, at Georgia State University. However, she has found a home in hospitality management and plans to stay in the industry. She is now considering whether to pursue a general manager position or shift toward a more corporate role in operations. Regardless of which path she chooses, Ms. Vugdalic is sure to continue finding success. In 2024, she was named Manager of the Quarter, and Sonesta Gwinnett Place Atlanta was recognized as one of the best hotels in the county. A notable professional accomplishment came in 2025, when the hotel achieved one of its highest quality assurance assessment scores to date under her leadership. Both the hotel and the extended-stay facility scored in the 90th percentile. These triumphs are no doubt due to Ms. Vugdalic’s transparent and team-oriented approach, which keeps everyone moving toward the same pillars of success.
