134 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine MEDICINE, HEALTHCARE AND WELLNESS Angela Dawn Ayers-Shaw is wellregarded in the healthcare industry for her holistic approach to patient care, commitment to simplifying healthcare processes, and comprehensive expertise in medical social work. Her extensive background in social work is demonstrated by several appointments, beginning as a personal care home manager at two family-owned facilities, where she lived on-site and provided full-time assistance for multiple years. Most recently, Ms. Ayers-Shaw served as a medical social worker at St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens, Georgia, performing dischargerelated linkage for patients requiring higher levels of care. Coordinating with rehab facilities and mental health assistance programs, she connected patients to dialysis facilities, addressed insurance requirements and financial assistance for medical care, and offered community resources for food and clothing, among other tasks. Similarly, she spent several years at U.S. Renal Care Inc., assisting patients with referrals and enrolling in financial support programs such as food stamps, Medicaid, transportation and Social Security disability benefits. At both facilities, Ms. Ayers-Shaw also conducted mental health screenings. In her early collegiate years, Ms. Ayers-Shaw served as a resident advocate for teenage parents. She received a BSW and an MSW from the University of Georgia in 2010 and 2013, respectively, before obtaining her LMSW credential in Georgia and formally entering the healthcare profession. She also completed work toward an LCSW credential. Ms. Ayers-Shaw was a dual-diagnosis counselor for intake at AVITA Community Partners and Advantage Behavioral Health Services, as well as an RSAT counselor at Lee-Arrendale State Prison, a substance-abuse rehabilitation facility. She also supervised interns and worked in several hospitals and renal facilities throughout Georgia. Civically, Ms. Ayers-Shaw has maintained affiliation with charities such as the March of Dimes and her local Walk to End Alzheimer’s chapter. Attributing her success to dependability and perseverance – as well as the strength she finds through God – she intends to return to full-time work soon to cement her legacy in patient-centered care.
