Now entering semi-retirement, Dr. Bayne works as a relief veterinarian for various practices, providing canine and feline veterinary services. Earlier in his career, Dr. Bayne served as the program director of veterinary technology at the Baker College of Port Huron, where he designed and implemented curricula, oversaw the veterinary technology program budget and supervised numerous faculty members. Likewise, he gained invaluable experience at prominent companies such as Boston Scientific Corporation, Pfizer Inc. and Ethicon. Impressively, during his tenure at Pfizer, Dr. Bayne managed the animal facility and its sterilization laboratory, overseeing a $1.6 billion budget and a brachytherapy study of coronary arteries. He also lent his expertise to Pfizer’s Rimadyl project in the late 1990s. Furthermore, he served as a study director at Ethicon, where he observed wound-healing and biomechanical responses to potentiation agents. Over the course of his career, Dr. Bayne contributed articles to scientific publications and penned the book “Trails of Tails – Veterinary Housecall Tales.” As a testament to his success, Dr. Bayne earned the Andreas F. Von Recum Award for outstanding service from the Academy of Surgical Research in 2000. More recently, he was honored by the Southeastern Michigan Veterinary Medical Association with an award for outstanding contributions in 2023. Highly educated, Dr. Bayne holds a BS in veterinary medicine and a DVM from Michigan State University. After accruing years in his profession, he earned an MS in bioengineering from the University of Utah in 1984. Looking toward the future, Dr. Bayne endeavors to ease into a full retirement to spend more time with his family. Determined to make a meaningful difference in the lives of both humans and animals, Dr. Norman R. Bayne pursued a career in veterinary medicine from a formative age.
