141 Millennium - Twenty-third Edition MEDICINE, HEALTHCARE AND WELLNESS operates under the motto, “Heal trauma to soothe the soul.” She aims to help people focus on what is right in their lives rather than what is wrong and to thrive in a changing world. At the crux of her program, based on the work of Dr. Roberto Assagioli, is teaching people how to modulate and regulate their own minds, emotions and body through spiritual development and higher functions. Dr. Schafer has always been at the forefront of new developments and conditions as they are recognized as valid and important, often being seen as a trailblazer in her field. She attributes much of her success to her risk-taking attitude and to the mentors who supported her work, both of which were incredibly valuable as she honed her knowledge and skills as a clinical psychologist through numerous internships. Dr. Schafer’s work on learning disabilities is rooted in her early career as an elementary school teacher and reading consultant at various schools in California. As her academic pursuits became more specialized, she progressed through several positions as a psychologist and consultant. She is especially proud to have been the first learning disability program coordinator at Sacramento City College. Today, she appears indefatigable, still holding numerous professional roles, including staff development instructor at Elk Grove Unified School District, private practice literacy and learning disabilities consultant, professor emeritus at Sacramento City College, and clinical psychologist for SoulGrowth Solutions. Dr. Schafer has published over 45 articles for the National Literacy Coalition, in addition to her book, “Ask Dr. Ann About Basic Skills and Learning,” which was revised and re-published in 2022. She is also the author of “Learning Disabilities: A Matter of Perception,” which was distributed to all California community colleges. For over 30 years, Dr. Ann K. Schafer has been a respected clinical psychologist with extensive expertise in both learning disabilities and personal growth. She dismisses the common therapist nickname of “shrink” and instead prefers to think of herself as a “stretch,” helping people access more joy and healing in their lives.
