He commenced his career in 1992 as a field inspection engineer at VHB Inc., where he worked as a consultant for the Boston Highway Department until 1995. Hailing from a strong educational background, he earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, magna cum laude, from the Wentworth Institute of Technology in 1991 and a master’s degree in civil engineering, with a structural option, from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell in February 2001. A member of the Massachusetts Society of Civil Engineers and the American Society of Civil Engineers, Mr. Philogene attributes much of his present success to his disciplined approach to work, his determination, his focus on independent learning, and luck. In the coming years, he endeavors to continue excelling in his role with MassDOT-Highway until easing into a well-deserved retirement soon. Lonardi R. Philogene is a respected civil engineer with over 30 years of professional experience. Since 2023, he has served as the CE V/District 4 assistant bridge engineer at the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) Highway, where he oversees the evaluation of bridge designs and ensures compliance with repair requirements. His leadership style is defined by open communication and a collaborative approach with colleagues, and he emphasizes providing strategic guidance on design adjustments. Mr. Philogene joined MassDOT in 2009 as an area construction engineer. In 2010, he was promoted to the role of assistant structures maintenance engineer for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, where he remained for three years. He rejoined MassDOT in 2013 as a bridge design/review engineer, where he was crucial in enhancing the safety and reliability of Massachusetts’ infrastructure.
