170 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine SOCIAL WORK, PUBLIC SERVICE, NONPROFIT AND HUMANITIES DONELL MORGAN EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Elevate Oregon Portland, OR As a child growing up in the inner city of New Orleans and then Tacoma, Washington, it would have been easy for Donell Morgan to feel limited by his circumstances. However, his mother and stepfather instilled strong values in him and showed him that he could become anything he dreamed of. He believed them and has worked tirelessly to make his dreams come true. Mr. Morgan’s ambitions took him around the world as an international basketball player. They would eventually lead him full circle, as he now sits at the helm of a nonprofit in Portland, Oregon, that helps marginalized youth from communities of color. As the executive director of Elevate Oregon, Mr. Morgan mentors students and builds life-changing relationships through various services. The organization offers elective classes through the Parkrose and David Douglas School Districts, enabling students to learn character qualities and life skills while earning credits toward graduation. Since 2017, 97% of seniors enrolled in Elevate programs have graduated from high school. Additionally, Elevate offers one-on-one mentoring from staff who reflect the diversity of the students, helping create caring adult bonds. Enrichment opportunities are offered after school and during the summer to reinforce and practice the tools and skills that Elevate students are learning.
