174 SOCIAL WORK, PUBLIC SERVICE, NONPROFIT AND HUMANITIES For more than 20 years, the Reverend Dr. Marilyn Dixon Hill was a devoted registered nurse, using her innate ability to connect with people to guide patients in their care. However, when a rare but severe complication from a flu vaccine led to partial paralysis, she was forced to retire and find other ways to serve. Putting her trust in God, she transitioned to full-time spiritual care. Ministry was hardly new for Rev. Dr. Dixon Hill. For 25 years, she served in various roles at Camden Bible Tabernacle, including minister and CBT community organizer. There was great joy in her work as she led Bible studies, guided a group of young women and participated in a correctional facility ministry. Yet, she still felt disconnected from those who were lost and wondered if she could be making a difference elsewhere. Leaning on God again, Rev. Dr. Dixon Hill moved to Centerville Outreach Ministries Inc., where she is a ministerial associate and elder. Now, in an area of significant need, her work has a tangible impact on other people’s lives. Many individuals at the church come directly from the streets and have never experienced this level of support and love. Rev. Dr. Dixon Hill’s strength lies in her ability to connect with people, meet them where they are and understand what they are going through. Spiritually, this enables her to better discern people’s deeper needs and shepherd them toward comfort, support or self-worth. Rev. Dr. Dixon Hill’s resilience and faith fuel her advocacy, whether she uses her voice to assist those whose needs are being ignored or volunteers in her community. Through Neighborhood Health Connections, she collaborated with Virtua-West Jersey Hospital and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to train 20 individuals to serve as neighborhood health advisors. Over 20 weeks, these advisors focused on education, teaching participants to support themselves and their neighbors. Looking ahead, Rev. Dr. Dixon Hill is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in biblical counseling, further cementing her expertise and enabling her to advance her mission and ministry. She expects to complete her degree by December 2027. REV. DR. MARILYN DIXON HILL MINISTERIAL ASSOCIATE, ELDER Centerville Outreach Ministries Inc.
