175 SOCIAL WORK, PUBLIC SERVICE, NONPROFIT AND HUMANITIES For 50 years, Mr. Haddix has helped those in need through ministry and service. He has served with CHP Home Care & Hospice since 2022. Here, he comforts and guides families and individuals through terminal illness and the grieving process. He sees hospice patients daily, weekly or as needed to help them and their families find peace in the journey. Mr. Haddix retired as a full-time pastor in the Wesleyan Church in July 2025, following ministerial service in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and South Carolina, including nine years at a church in Delphos, Ohio. Throughout his career, he has challenged churches to reach their full potential within the community. Three that he pastored achieved their best financial results in 20 years, thanks to high attendance and giving. Mr. Haddix began his ministry in 1975 as a student at Mount Vernon Nazarene College, serving as a minister of youth and music. He also directed six youth camps over the years, witnessing transformations in both attitudes and outlooks as attendees discovered their Godgiven purposes. Many of those he has mentored have gone on to serve God in full-time ministry or contributed to their churches and communities in other significant ways. Called to the ministry as a child, Mr. Haddix never considered another path. While there have been some hardships, he considers his most notable achievement to be the lasting impact he has made on others. He has been described as a down-to-earth pastor, a compliment he values because it acknowledges that he ministers from the trenches, not from above. Throughout his work, Mr. Haddix has sought to build meaningful connections with others while keeping his ministry centered on the Bible. Looking forward, he intends to continue this by expanding his role at CHP to better support patients, families and staff. In many ways, running a church can be like running a business, and it can be easy to focus on numbers – growing a congregation, moving to a bigger building. However, for Steven R. Haddix, ministry has always been about people. This is especially clear in his current role as a hospice chaplain. STEVEN R.
