For 16 years, Dr. Belarmino-De Leon has managed the laboratory, preparing samples for analysis and supervising more than 30 fulltime lab technicians. Her team works closely with sponsors of medications, such as Pfizer, Novartis and Amgen, enrolling study participants, and processing samples. With support from Dr. Belarmino-De Leon’s lab, pharmaceutical companies can evaluate a medication’s effectiveness and other parameters to ensure its safety and efficacy. For instance, the lab played a significant role in developing the first GLP-1 medications in collaboration with Novo Nordisk. The site also remained open during the COVID-19 pandemic to support Pfizer and other companies as they worked toward a vaccine.
