After two years, he transitioned into private security with First Security Services Corporation (Now Allied Universal). However, everything changed with the tragic events of September 11, 2001. MSgt. Boyden spent the next 15 years supporting security teams across various U.S. Air Force bases. Throughout this time, he was twice recognized as the top individual in the Air Force Materiel Command and led his unit to be ranked #1 among 24 small-sized police organizations in 2012 and 2014. He also received the Bronze Star for providing academy-style training to Iraqi police officers. Returning to private security in 2016, MSgt. Boyden advanced through roles to reach his current position. His knack for connecting with others and understanding emerging technologies has enabled him to build a specialized team to oversee critical systems across the Air Force and Space Force. With a father who served in the U.S. Marines and uncles who served in the Army and Navy, Master Sergeant William “Bill” Boyden Jr. decided to follow in their footsteps. He joined the Army Reserve after graduating from high school, considering this more of a duty than a career choice. However, after trying a semester of college and feeling unprepared, he wondered if his service could be both. Enlisting in the Army would prove pivotal for MSgt. Boyden’s career, preparing him for future work in protection services, private security and specialized testing roles that support national defense. Today, he is a test and requirements manager and task lead at Odyssey Systems Consulting Group. In 1988, MSgt. Boyden joined the 101st Airborne Division and was stationed in Berlin, an experience that would become a defining moment in his life. The Berlin Wall still stood, and he was assigned to host meetings among the United States, France, Great Britain and the former Soviet Union – a high-level security placement. Following his service in Germany, MSgt. Boyden and his wife returned to the United States, where he joined the National Guard in 1994.
