Developing strong public speaking and debate skills in school, he competed in the National Debate Championship during high school and represented Georgetown University in college. He was also recognized as the top speaker at the Harvard Law School Moot Court competition. In his early years, Mr. Tyrrell was a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy JAG Corps. He began his legal work as a clerk for a third circuit judge, Leonard I. Garth, training a young Samuel Alito to take his place when his clerkship ended. Throughout his career, Mr. Tyrrell has strived to consistently make time for his family – his wife, sons and their spouses are all practicing attorneys.
